I am thinking of installing Kolibri in a Raspberry PI and was wondering if a 8GB memory would be enough for the base software and some content for testing.

Given that the file size of Kolibri alone is roughly 70MB, you should be able to load Kolibri and a small content channel (or subset of a larger channel) for testing. When you load Kolibri to export the content channels onto your drive, the interface will note the file size of each channel in the Content tab.
