Creating a virtual machine with Kolibri Raspberry Pi image

Summary

I would like to simulate the Raspberry Pi Kolibri OS on my desktop using VirtualBox. I tried converting the Kolibri img file to an iso using ccd2iso Kolibri-lite.img Kolibri-lite.iso and got an “Unrecognized sector mode” error. I also tried writing the img file to an SD card, then making a disk image using dd, but the resulting image wasn’t recognized as a bootable medium. Is there some way to simulate the Raspberry Pi Kolibri OS without a Raspberry Pi?

Technical Details

I am running Ubuntu 20 natively.
I am using VirtualBox 6.1.

Hi @rupumped, welcome to our community forum!

From what you’re sharing, it seems that you might be looking for Kolibri OS.

Our Kolibri is a learning platform that is an app (and not an OS) that basically allows users to access online learning content offline. If this is what you’re looking for, then we have other install options to try Kolibri on Ubuntu without needing a Raspberry Pi. My current understanding is that it isn’t possible to virtualize a Raspberry Pi with VirtualBox.

I hope that helps clarify things. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Best,

Sairina
