Attention Translators! Important Notice re. ICU Syntax

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to ask you to please be mindful of ICU Syntax on CrowdIn. For those who are not familiar with it, here’s more information about it.

To put it very simply, all you have to know for now is:

ALL TEXTS THAT APPEAR HIGHLIGHTED SHOULD NOT BE TRANSLATED.

Example:

As you can see in the example above, I have copied the text using the button ‘Copy Source’ (3rd from L after the arrow) and just translated the words ‘Resource’ and ‘Resources’ into the target language.

So regardless of what comes between or outside curly braces, a good rule of thumb is:

  1. If the text APPEARS HIGHLIGHTED, IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE TRANSLATED.

  2. If the text is NOT HIGHLIGHTED, IT NEEDS TO BE TRANSLATED.

Another good practice is to check the Preview section for errors or words that still appear in English.

Examples:

  1. Words still appear in English on Preview - this means something is still missing in the translation.

  2. Error message on Preview section - this means something went wrong with the copied highlighted text or with the actual translation:

If you have any questions or comments regarding this, please do not hesitate in getting in touch.

We’ll keep on updating you on more ICU Syntax features in the near future to help facilitate your work.

Thank you!
