Description of problem:
I’ve recorded a short video to help illustrate the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13Rd7ObWCWyXuv2BNd1MZZkO_JmUN89rK/view?usp=sharing
To provide more context, I’m currently unable to publish HTML apps to my channel, which means they don’t appear in my Kolibri application. This issue occurs whether I’m working with a new channel or an existing one.
A few key details:
-
The problem only affects HTML apps. I can still publish PDFs and videos without any issues.
-
The HTML apps appear correctly in Studio but fail to publish to Kolibri.
-
When uploading both a PDF and an HTML app together, only the PDF becomes available to import into Kolibri.
-
I’ve tested this with very simple HTML content (e.g., a single <h1> tag), and the issue persists.
-
Importantly, I was able to successfully upload and publish HTML apps just last week, so this seems to be a recent change.
Steps to Recreate the Issue :
- Create a new channel
- Upload simple HTML file
- Click “Publish”
No console errors appear when attempting to publish. However, in the Network tab, I noticed a recurring browserapierrors request showing up every 5 seconds
Do tell me if you need more information!
Thanks,
Henry
Hi @henryly213!
There are specific guidelines that you must follow in order to import HTML5 files and apps into Kolibri Studio so they are correctly displayed in Kolibri locally. You need to create a ZIP file containing HTML5 resources such as HTML, CSS, and JS files:
- There must be an index.html file at the top level within the ZIP file.
- All resources referenced from HTML pages must be relative, pointing to files within the ZIP file — not online sources.
- JavaScript is allowed, but some features (e.g. popup windows, alerts) are disabled.
- Video files (mp4) should be progressive download and no more than 480p resolution.
- Audio files (mp3) should not exceed 128kb bit rate.
Hi Radina,
Thanks for sharing the guide. Sorry I am a bit confuse but I did upload a simple html file at the top of the zip file. When I say upload simple html file I am referring to a zip folder with only an html file. The video will elaborate a bit better.
thanks,
Henry
So I tried again, but I’m still facing the same issue. However, I did notice an interesting behavior. It seems that on channels with an existing published HTML app, I can replace the file with another HTML app and it publishes successfully. The problem only occurs with new HTML apps that have never been published before. I wonder if this could be specific to my account. I’ve already logged out and back in, then cleared my cache, but the issue still persists.
Hi @henryly213,
Apologies, we’ve been investigating this and should have got back to you sooner. We’ve isolated what we think is the problem, and will be doing final confirmation of the fix before start of day Pacific Time tomorrow. Once we have that confirmed, we hope to release an update that will resolve this issue.
Thanks for your ongoing feedback on this issue, and the clear steps to replicate, it helped us to isolate it very quickly. This was a regression caused by our release on Monday afternoon, so anything uploaded prior to then will not have this issue (hence the different behaviour you are seeing with replaced files).
Kind Regards,
Richard
Hi @henryly213,
The error that caused this should now be fixed. Unfortunately, the bug in question caused a mismatch between our server state and your browser state, so you will need to logout and log back in again. After you have done this, the HTML5 zips that failed to load will have disappeared from your channel, and will need to be reuploaded.
Kind Regards,
Richard
Yay! It works thanks y’all
