Suggestions for GSoC 2025 for new contributors

Hello Learning Equality Support Team,
I am Mamatha , masters in computer science student, I am deeply interested in contributing to your organization as part of Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025. I admire the impactful work of your organization, and I am eager to be a part of it.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to prepare effectively for GSoC 2025, particularly regarding:

  1. How I can begin contributing to your organization’s projects before the application process starts.
  2. The best way to contact and collaborate directly with project maintainers for feedback and assistance.
  3. Can you please provide me discord channel or any other social media if available for connecting directly with contributors.
  4. Any specific skills or knowledge areas I should focus on to align better with your projects.

Currently, I have experience in SQL, JavaScript, Python, open-source contributions and have worked on python JavaScript realtime projects. However, I am eager to learn and improve further to match the needs of your organization.

Please let me know if there are beginner-friendly tasks or resources I can explore to get started. I am enthusiastic about contributing meaningfully and learning from the experience.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to your response and any guidance you can offer.
Best Regards
Mamatha

Hi @akolson
Thank you for your response and the guidance on how to get started! I will join the Slack channel. Let i connect you if i have any other doubts.
I and have been going through the documentation to familiarize myself with the projects. I’m also excited to share that I’ve already started contributing by working on an issue.

I was wondering if there is a Discord channel or any other social media platform where contributors discuss ideas or collaborate for GSoC 2025. It would be great to connect with others who are also passionate about these projects!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Mamatha Bandi

Hi @Mamatha_Bandi!

Unfortunately, we are not in Discord, but on Slack, which should help you connect with other contributors once you are settled in and have started contributing more regularly.

Thanks again!

Hi @akolson ,
I wrote an email to the support team regarding the GSoC private Slack channel, but I haven’t received any update yet.

I heard from a previous contributor that there might be a Slack channel for GSoC. I wanted to check if this channel is currently available or if it will be created only after the official GSoC applications are announced.

I’m interested in reviewing past projects, understanding how they worked, and learning about the timelines to better prepare for my application.

Looking forward to your response. Thank you for your time and support!
