Copied from e-mail: “We are running Kolibri on a windows 2008 r2 server. The C drive cannot be shared w/ the network and currently are installing to the D:/ drive. It is possible to access kolibri on the install machine but despite many attempts external PC’s cannot connect. I have tried making an options.ini file to change port but this turned out to not be the issue. When I install the software on any other PC that is not the server, connection works smoothly with other computers on the network. I was wondering if there is any documentation or tips to get this working on the 08 windows server D drive. I did not see this in the Kolibri documentation but I apologise if it is in there I and I missed it. Thanks, Joe”
It would be great if we can get the kolibri.log file (or kolibri.txt file if they are using 0.12.4) to see if there are any errors.
OK, there are some seriously worrying words in there, starting with “The C drive cannot be shared with the network”!
For starters, you never share the C: drive of a server. Never at all. The level at which this request is starting makes me wonder if this is something as simple as the Kolibri web server not having been unblocked on the server’s firewall? I’m at this stage inclined to hazard a guess that the connectivity issues are related to Windows Server, and not Kolibri. Also, Server 2008 R2 will become unsupported in January 2020, so is not a good platform on which to build.
You are right in that I’m inexperienced in IT. I can’t really do anything about upgrading the server at the moment. I never attributed the connection issues to Kolibri as I’ve been able to get the software to run on everything that isn’t the server. I checked the firewall and nothing stuck out to me but again, I am inexperienced. Do I need to create a new rule for the software? Below are the log files
