Best Practices for new Deployments

I am planning to deploy 10 device implementation in a local school. Looking for inputs from people who have installed previously and what worked for them and what didn’t.
What is the best economical option - laptop, desktop or tablets.

Thanks

HI Anup!

Some questions to consider:

What type of electricity and how many blackouts?

Can you get donated refurbished equipment?

WIFI or Ethernet or both?

Who will teach and train people?

What is the deployment for? If general computer use (computer studies), consider that a tablet will disadvantage people in the sense that they don’t get to learn with a real computer.

We too are in the planning stages of rolling out a Kolibri school in Pakistan. We feel tablet devices are most economical and practical for a number of reasons and would like to ask the community if they have any recommendation on which specific tablets to used based on cost, battery life, user experience, and reliability. We are currently leaning towards the amazon fire tablets but welcome any other suggestions.

We are not concerned with blackouts because we can install solar power infrastructure. We would like to buy new or used if we find good deals. We will use wifi for convenience and ease of setup. We plan to hire local teachers to teach students and a trainer to train teachers. The deployment is largely for k-12 education focussed on Khan Academy content.

Thank you for your inputs!
