Operating System (e.g. Windows, MacOS, Linux): Ubuntu Linux

Browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari): not using browser, python sushichef script is failing

Channel (Name of the channel you were working on): Deploy How to Think Like a Computer Scientist, Interactive Edition

Channel ID: fb7e1ee25adf5b229832d6e6fd15c854 - I’ve created several channels with the same name over time trying to work around issues with the centrally hosted Studio server

Description of problem: Attempts to upload a new version of my channel are failing with an opaque error “Connection aborted” “Remote end closed connection without response”

For some additional context, I did try to run my script with a filter that only built a smaller chunk of the channel and that was able to successfully upload.

Hi @jaltekruse, thank you for reporting this.

It looks like you found a bug in ricecooker. It opens a connection to Studio when it logs in and doesn’t use it again until it creates the channel, after all the building and downloading is done. If that takes more than ~5-10 minutes, the connection gets dropped, and ricecooker fails with the error you’re seeing.

We were able to reproduce it and filed an [issue](https://github.com/learningequality/ricecooker/issues/883), so it’s on our radar to fix. In the meantime, you can work around it by re-running the command with the --resume flag:

`python sushichef.py --token= --resume`

This flag lets the command pick up from the failed step without rebuilding the channel or re-downloading the files, so it reaches the upload before the connection drops.

Could you try it and let us know if the upload works with this?

Alex.
